The underwriting desk
A risk our other platforms already understand: the site, the books, the loss history, and the owner.
What we source
Cover written by us, or through a partner carrier, limited to scenarios our platforms already understand.
Insurance is one of the five lines the holding company is built to run, and it is limited on purpose. The aim is to write cover ourselves, or through a partner carrier, only for the scenarios our lending and specialty finance platforms already read: the business that finances its premium, the operator with work under contract, the storefront held as performing property.
What we run
The underwriting desk, on the same file that tells credit whether the premium can be financed.
The desk belongs to the holding company, not to the platform, and it keeps one file for two jobs, so the read that prices the risk is the read that tells credit whether the premium can be financed. Where a business finances that premium, the loan sits on the unearned premium, and the desk’s read of the policy and the insured is the read the premium finance platform underwrites against.
How it is checked
Underwriting, in-house audit, risk assessment, and active asset management.
Every policy is meant to sit on the same four controls as every other asset we hold: underwriting before capital moves, in-house audit of how the book performs, a risk assessment of how the scenario fails before the risk is priced, and active management of the book day to day.
In research, moving to structured; which carrier model the desk would write through is still being chosen. Not formed, not an offer.
