About

How every platform is run.

Every business the holding company acquires sits on the same four controls, underwriting, in-house audit, risk assessment, and active asset management, and the holding company owns them, not the business.

  • Underwriting
  • In-house audit
  • Risk assessment
  • Active asset management

Where we look

Finance

Specialty finance, lending, and debt recovery

Credit tied to the collateral or contract that stands behind it.

Credit against a specific collateral or contract, short-term secured loans underwritten and serviced in-house, and written-off loans bought at a discount and worked out with the borrower.

Insurance

Cover we underwrite ourselves

Only the risks our other platforms already understand.

Risk limited to the scenarios our other platforms already understand: the site, the books, the loss history, the owner.

Management

Asset management

Property and outside capital, held for the long run on our rules.

Leased, performing property held for the long run, and outside capital run on the same rules as our own.

The controls are the edge

A scenario a bank or a generic lender handles badly is worth a platform of its own only when that platform can be run on our own controls.

The holding company identifies the scenario, sources or builds the specialized business that handles it well, owns that business, and runs it on its own controls. Every business we run leans on the same four controls, and we keep them at the center rather than rebuilding them in each business. Underwriting prices every asset a platform takes on before capital moves. In-house audit checks the platform’s performance at the holding company, so results are measured by us rather than reported to us. Risk assessment works out how the scenario fails before the asset is priced, so the price reflects the failure case and not only the plan. Active asset management runs each business day to day, so nothing is held passively and nothing is assumed. Applying the four to a platform is the Structure & Management job, and its output is an underwritten, audited book. Together the controls are the shared layer that makes each platform cheaper to hold than it would be alone. The steps below run the same four controls on every platform, whatever its line, and the holding company owns them, not the platform.

A platform that cannot be run on all four is not acquired.

  • UnderwritingEvery asset a platform takes on is priced by the holding company before any capital moves
  • In-house auditPerformance is checked by the holding company itself, not reported up by the platform
  • Risk assessmentThe scenario is underwritten for how it fails before the asset it produces is priced

How a platform is run

Source

Specialized businesses in specialty finance, insurance, lending, debt recovery, and asset management, each built for a scenario we understand.

Acquire

The holding company buys or builds the platform, so the business and its cash flow are ours to run.

Underwrite

Every asset a platform takes on is priced by our own underwriting, audit, and risk assessment before capital moves.

Operate

Active asset management runs each business day to day. Performance is checked in-house, not assumed.

Audit

Performance is checked in-house by the holding company, not reported up by the platform.

Assess

The scenario is underwritten, how it fails and what that costs, before the asset is priced.

Approach FAQ

Who owns the controls, the platform or the holding company?

The holding company. Underwriting, in-house audit, risk assessment, and active asset management sit under every business we run, and they belong to the holding company rather than to the business being run.

What is priced first, the asset or the scenario?

The scenario. Risk assessment works out how it fails before the asset is priced, and underwriting then prices every asset a platform takes on before capital moves.

Is this approach already running?

No. No platform is formed. Each service is structured or in research, and the loop above is how the holding company is built to run, not a record of what it has run.
